Tiffany & Company® and Target® are rarely in the same shopping malls so only shoppers on the internet can move from one of these fine outlets to the other in seconds. The two companies compare favorably in success and profits, but the merchandise at the two companies are quite different. Tiffany & Company® focuses on expensive jewelry and fine gifts while Target® carries a wide range of products for home, office and entertainment. Comparative shopping at these stores requires hours of time at the traditional, brick and mortar outlets but on the internet a shopper can accomplish the same mission in minutes.  In a short five minutes, a shopper could view diamond engagement rings at either company and soon find out that the jewelry at Target® starts at a less expensive price.

Comparative shopping is easy when using the internet. Within fifteen minutes or less, a shopper can compare prices at important stores selling electronics, groceries, major appliances or automobiles. A quick look at a digital camera on a favorite website will detail the features and price of the camera. A savvy internet shopper will soon find out that three different dealers sell this same popular digital camera at three different prices ranging from $349.99 to $263.93. A shopper could purchase the camera with a couple of clicks on their mouse at the best price for a savings of $86.00. Checking out this camera at traditional stores would take hours, and then the customer might have to return to the store with the best price. The websites of major retailers offer a great selection of merchandise. The websites also include information on the location of the stores and many websites provide detailed maps to stores located near each customer.

Comparative shopping for prices is easy on the internet, but there is valuable information for each consumer as well. Many websites provide customer reviews of their products. The reviewers often provide background information on their experience with the merchandise. In other words, a novice computer user will note their limited computer experience and any problems experienced because of their skill levels. Other shoppers with similar experience will be able to evaluate potential problems with each purchase.  The customer reviews also offer information on the customer service of different companies. Shoppers should be able to find out if a product will break easily or require an expert for operation. The reviews often provide information on the use of the product. For example, only a few scanners will process black and white negatives, and this type of information is often available through the information on the website and in the customer reviews.

Shoppers using the internet can browse merchandise from Hong Kong one minute and from London the next. With a couple of clicks of the mouse, efficient shoppers buy cashmere leather gloves from Harrods® in London and antique Chinese furniture from Hong Kong. A famous outlet in Oregon ships perfect pears and awesome apples to customers in every corner of the country. Customers looking for a new car will easily find a website with photos of all the latest models. Some of these are interactive so customers can check out photos of their dream car in bright red with a rich black interior.  Seconds later shoppers can check out more photos of the same car in a bright white interior and exterior. Without a doubt, shopping on the internet works well even if the customer is in their pajamas or limited to the early hours of the morning before traditional shops open.
